Bosnia's Demining Dogs Sniff Out Land Mines In Ukraine
World-renowned for their experience with clearing land mines after the Balkan wars of the 1990s, a team of demining experts from Bosnia are in Ukraine helping to train sappers. Some 35,000 square kilometers were cleared last year after a third of Ukraine's territory was mined following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. The Bosnian deminers are part of Norwegian People's Aid and work with mine-detection dogs that were bred and trained in Sarajevo. The special canine unit has been deployed to Ukrainian minefields and also works with emergency crews who respond to air strikes.
