Georgians Continue Pro-Democracy Protests While Commemorating Independence Vote

Protesters rallied outside the parliament building in Tbilisi for the latest in a months-long series of pro-democracy protests. The demonstrations began in October after parliamentary elections widely considered to be undemocratic. The March 31 protest marked the anniversary of a 1991 referendum in which Georgians overwhelmingly voted in favor of independence from the Soviet Union.
